FOUNDATIONS 1 CLASS

Welcome to Foundations 1 Class - Early Learners (AGES: 1 to 2 YEARS OLD)

Welcome to TLC's Foundational Curriculum for Early Learners, where we lay the foundation for lifelong learning and growth through play and exploration. Our curriculum is designed to nurture your child's natural curiosity and support their physical, emotional, and cognitive development. Join us on this exciting journey of discovery and self-expression, where your child will build a strong foundation for future success.

 

School Hours:  Monday to Friday from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm

*Arrival Time:  9:30 am

 

*For an interruption-free learning environment, students must arrive in the classroom by 9:30 a.m. Late arrival will be marked as absence. If a student has an appointment, please inform the teacher beforehand to accommodate their needs and minimize disruption to the class.

 

Our Foundations 1 - Early Learning Curriculum:

  • Language Development and Vocabulary:

    • Encouraging the development of language and communication skills through play and exploration, including the introduction of sign language.

  • Music, Movement, and Dance:

    • Introducing our young learners to the world of music, movement, and dance through interactive activities and experiences.

  • Sensory and Performing Arts:

    • Fostering creativity and self-expression through visual arts, sensory exploration, and performing arts activities.

  • Health and Well-being:

    • Promoting physical activity and healthy habits through our health and fitness program, mindful movement practices, and hot lunch and snack program.

Inside Your Foundations 1 - Early Learner's Day:

  • Routine:

    • A reliable & consistent schedule for structure and stability

  • Learning interactions:

    • Includes relationship-building exercises, critical thinking, sensory and language experiences, and the introduction of sign language

  • Group experiences:

    • Promotes social and emotional development

  • Storytime:

    • Includes Letterland Phonics, focusing on literacy skills and character development

  • Meal time:

    • Fuels the body and promoting healthy habits

  • Music and Movement:

    • Encourages physical activity and promoting coordination and balance, this program introduces the basics of our Foundations of Mindful Movement. (see link for more information)

  • Outside time:

    • Promotes physical activity and exploration of the environment

  • Creative Arts and Sensory Exploration:

    • Fosters creativity and self-expression

  • Visual teaching methods:

    • Use visual aids to enhance understanding and engagement

  • Flexibility: 

    • Providing flexibility to meet the needs of children, while maintaining a consistent structure for stability.

 

Goals for Our Foundations 1 - Early Learners (Ages 1-2):

  • Provide a nurturing and supportive environment where each child feels valued and appreciated.

  • Nurture language development, including simple words and sentences.

  • Build social skills through interaction and relationship-building.

  • Encourage physical growth through crawling, walking, and climbing activities.

  • Develop emotional intelligence, including expression and empathy.

  • Enhance fine motor skills through grasping and manipulating objects.

  • Build a positive self-concept.

  • Foster critical thinking and language growth.

  • Stimulate creativity and self-expression.

  • Gradually increase attention span.

  • Support healthy potty training when developmentally appropriate.

  • Promote physical health and nutrition through active play and healthy habits.

  • Understanding and expressing a range of emotions.

It's important to note that every child develops at their own pace, so it's normal for some children to reach milestones earlier or later than others.


 

Foundations 1 - Early Learners to Foundations 2 - Explorers Class: Identifying Readiness & Key Indicators: 

 

Social & Emotional:

  • Uses at least 50 words

  • Imitates new words

  • Names objects and pictures

  • Understands simple pronouns (me, you, my)

  • Identifies 3-5 body parts

  • Quickly understands new words

  • Uses 2-word phrases

  • Uses simple pronouns (me, you, my)

  • Understands action words

  • Uses gestures and words in pretend play

  • Follows 2-step related directions

  • Enjoys listening to stories

  • Shows empathy for others' emotions

  • Looks for cues in new situations

 

Language & Communication:

  • Points to objects in a book when asked

  • Uses 2-word phrases and points to body parts on request

  • Employs gestures beyond pointing and waving

 

Cognitive:

  • Holds an object in one hand and uses the other hand to manipulate it

  • Tries to operate switches, knobs, and buttons on toys

  • Plays with multiple toys at once

 

Movement & Physical Development:

  • Flips switches

  • Uses crayons, pens, or markers to make marks on paper

  • Sorts shapes and colors

  • Stacks 5 or more small blocks or toys

  • Takes toys apart and puts them back together

  • Kicks a ball and runs

  • Walks up stairs with or without assistance

  • Uses a spoon to eat.
